Adlibris
Adlibris is a Swedish online bookstore founded in 1997 and owned by Bonnier. Today, they sell books, audiobooks, and e-books, alongside everyday favorites like toys, games, yarn, crafts, and office supplies. They serve everyone from everyday readers to businesses, schools, and libraries across Sweden, Norway, and Finland—with their main office in Stockholm and their warehouse in Morgongåva.
About Adlibris
Adlibris is the Nordic region's largest online bookstore, operating in Sweden, Finland, and Norway. In Sweden, they also run 25 physical stores. Every year, thousands of new book titles are released, and publishers have a clear need to market these to the right audiences.
Retail Media – a proven concept in a new digital format
Retail Media is all about opening up your own channels—like your website and newsletters—for advertising from suppliers or brands. Most commonly, brands already selling through a retailer get the chance to promote themselves directly to that retailer's customers. Suppliers and brands simply want to meet shoppers where they already are.
In practice, Retail Media isn't new. In grocery stores, it has long been standard to offer in-store sampling stations. The digital equivalent is similar to sponsored products on Amazon or Google Shopping—but hosted on the retailer's own channels.
The reason Retail Media has grown so much is profitability: selling your own ad space brings high margins and low costs. For e-commerce businesses, a significant portion of their profits can come directly from Retail Media—making it a very real way to monetize traffic and customer data.
From traditional advertising to data-driven partnerships
Over the past few years, Adlibris has invested in improving its digital interfaces and its ability to collect and use customer data. This made it possible to completely change how they collaborate with publishers.
The shift involved:
Focusing on owned channels—investments were directed toward email, web, and organic posts instead of external ad platforms.
Tailored packages—different setups for established authors versus debutants, rather than just selling isolated ad spots.
Targeting based on customer data—ads were shown to readers interested in specific genres or authors.
A new pricing model—focusing on impact, reach, and a win-win for both publishers and Adlibris.
Automation—to ensure scalable and efficient management.
Remotion's role in the transformation
Remotion has been a long-term partner in this journey, taking end-to-end responsibility from strategy and concept development to implementation and change management. The collaboration covered both internal processes at Adlibris and hands-on operational work alongside the publishers.
